Import conductor track (tempo map)

Is it possible for Finale to import a conductor track from Digital Performer or ProTools? I believe this is called a tempo map in Finale.

Are you still using Finale 2004?

Take a look in your File menu > Import > and see what formats can be imported. If your DAW can export in one of those, you may be OK.

Here's the situation:

I have a rubato recording of some kind for which I have made a conductor track (tempo map) in Digital Performer (or ProTools) that matches it exactly. Now I want that tempo map in Finale so I can import the audio file and orchestrate/arrange to it with everything lined up.

Someone suggested making Finale a slave to DP like any other 3 party sound source. It seems to be following the DP tempo map as a result but no audio is coming out. Is this even possible?

Finale only imports XML files.

Current versions can also import MIDI, if that's any help.

The MIDI File should have the tempo data in it. Once imported, you could mute the tracks or delete all but one of them and mute that track. That track should also have the tempo data.

Warning: Human Playback could interfere with the tempo data when playing an audio file, so the results may be undesirable. Turning off HP should solve that problem. Settings in HP options may also work to mitigate that interference.

Thanks. This maybe a silly distinction but I believe Finale OPENS midi files, but only IMPORTS XML files. XML is the only option in the import menu item in Finale 25. Is it different in Finale 26?

I used the wrong word. Open is the correct word. If you already have a file started, I suppose you could use the Merge Files feature to combine the 2 files, if that is what you need. I guess you could open a MIDI file, then copy/paste 1 staff that has the Tempo data into an empty staff in an existing file.

P.S.: It's easier than that. Just open the MIDI file, then copy/paste the MIDI tempo data with the Edit Filter choosing only that item.

Zuill,

That worked! We tried a bunch of other things that did not work. Thanks!
